The Berkeley Academic Guide offers a course catalog, which shows all classes per field of study that exist at the university, as well as a class schedule, which lists all available classes for a specific semester.
It can be helpful to first look over the course catalog to identify courses to search for before moving to the class schedule, but note that not all classes in the course catalog are taught each semester. If a course you're interested in is not listed in the class schedule for your semester, it means that it unfortunately won't be offered that term.
In order to see what's available for the term that you'll be studying with us, make sure to select the right semester in the Term section on the left-hand side of the class schedule.
Once you have located a course, you'll be able to see all the relevant information about it. You can read a short description of the course, the name of the professor, when and where the class will be held, how many units the course is worth, the instruction mode (online vs. in person), and how many seats are available. The most important information, however, is the class number located on the left-hand side. This is the number you’ll need to remember when actually applying for the class.
If there is a substantial number of open seats available, then there is a good chance that you will be able to enroll in the class. You will find this information on the left-hand side of the class page as well. If only a few seats are available, as in the example below, you may still be able to get in to the class, but you should make alternative arrangements in case the class fills up before your application can be considered.
Once you have identified your classes and written down the class numbers, you can proceed to your class applications. We recommend that you refer to our help article on submitting class applications for step-by-step instructions.
